Before the game: the story

Opinion Murray's toe injury leaves the Pelicans' starting backcourt unsettled

According to the Locked On Pelicans host, Dejounte Murray has had a toe injury since the first preseason game, and Jeremiah Fears started the last three preseason games. The host says starting both 'might be' the answer. Hardwood Knocks still lists Murray and Herb Jones as starters.

Also in the picture (3)
  • Opinion Bennedict Mathurin faces the Pacers in his Pelicans debut

Mathurin played mostly for Indiana last season and now opens with New Orleans. Locked On Pelicans noted he started ahead of Herb Jones in a preseason game against Miami and could be a starting option if Murray is held back.

Sources: Roster: Bennedict Mathurin · Locked On Pelicans “Jeremiah Fears’ RISE Pushes New Orleans Pelicans T” at 4:54, 6:49

  • Opinion New-look Pacers add Zubac and Oubre, with backup center still unclear

Ivica Zubac and Kelly Oubre Jr. are new to Indiana this season. Tony East of Locked On Pacers noted that Andrew Nembhard played every preseason minute alongside Siakam, Zubac and Haliburton. East also isn't sure who the backup center will be, though he guesses Obi Toppin.

  • Reported No Pacers extensions, while the Pelicans pick up three options

Tony East reported that no Pacers player signed an extension before the deadline, so Haliburton, Siakam and others have to wait until next offseason. Michael Scotto reported that New Orleans picked up its options on Fears, Queen and Missi and will decline AJ Johnson's.

Pacers fell down by 17 points in the first quarter, then lost by 16. Ugly start on both ends was costly. Tyrese Haliburton's return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse ends in an ugly 121-105 loss for the Pacers. They're 1-1.

  • XINDJarace Walker

Got really loud in here after the Toppin dunk-and-1, but then the Mavs got a layup and Jarace Walker dribbled the ball off his foot out of bounds and Dallas is back up 27 in a. blink.

Credit to these fans. Pacers are down 23 but they're rocking with a "de-fense" chant right now. A crowd that wanted to see something special for Haliburton's return. And then... a Mavs bucket, a Pacers turnover, and the boos return.

Heavy boos as the Pacers walk off the court for the first half. Some fans frustrated with the offials, but general anger at how the team just played. It's 77-43 Mavs at the break and feels every bit that bad.
