  • BlueskyTORAllen Graves

All of Allen Graves’ decisions, large and small, are well thought out. But in his first NBA game, the Raptors’ conscientious rookie shut off his brain and just played basketball. It made for a successful debut:

For this to work, the Raptors can’t simply rely on Kawhi Leonard to win them games, and they didn’t on opening night. Weighing in on Kawhi’s rusty re-debut with Jack:

Jama Mahlalela channeled Kyle Lowry and secured the game ball for rookie Allen Graves, who made his NBA debut tonight. Graves: “I got a new level unlocked. I’m just excited to be here and get my first points in the NBA. Officially a part of the brotherhood.”

Darko Rajakovic says Kawhi Leonard asked to come back into the game in the 4th to continue to get his legs/reps. Hence him returning while up 40+ Finished with 23 minutes.

  • BlueskyTORAbout an earlier game

One thing about the 2019 Raptors: they didn’t rely on Kawhi to win (until the playoffs). Other guys stepped up when he sat, allowing them to manage his workload. Not the re-debut people were hoping for tonight but his teammates picked him up. Bulls aren’t the bar but bodes well.

Raptors O: 43 first-quarter points on 52% FG, 6-12 3P, 13 assists on 14 buckets, 15-4 edge in fast-break points Raptors D: held Bulls to 23 points on 29% FG, 1-9 3P and forced 4 turnovers Pretty flawless debut quarter (and Kawhi only needed to play 5 minutes of it)

At this time of year, fans want to know that their team has a shot. Now, thanks in large part to the return of Kawhi Leonard, the Raptors have a real shot. That’s all you can ask for:

  • XTORScottie Barnes

I asked Scottie Barnes if he’s felt the buzz/experiment in/around the city going into the season. He said he doesn’t go outside much (😂) but sees it on social media. When he is out in public, most people ask about Kawhi. What does he tell them? “I say he’s pretty good.”
